Doing Ehsaan to one's Neighbors
Bismillah,
Piyari Ustazah,
Assalaam O'Alaikum
wa Rahmatulahi wa Barakatuhu,
We are doing Ramazan
Program at my place on weekends. There were too many cars in the
street on weekends so yesterday one of our neighbor came and shouted
a lot with so many complaints. What we did was a kind of Ahsaan to
them as they are our neighbors. (Legally we are allowed to Park cars
in the streets because there are no signs of No Parking or any
thing.) Anyway We made baskets and in the basket we put things like
honey, dates, popcorns, tea and cookies. With the dates we attached
this small poem
RAMADAN POEM
It’s the special month of Ramadan
Which we would like to share,
Our family rises at dawn to fast
And ends the day with prayer.
We break our fast at sunset
With a juicy date,
Remembering to help those in need
Before it gets too late.
The spirit of giving is strong this
month
And we would like to say,
Best wishes for the coming year
And Happy Holidays!!
Also we wrote this
note of apology and I went myself to all my neighbors introduced
myself, gave them the basket plus this letter below.
October 16, 2005
Dearest
Neighbors,
Please accept our
apologies for the inconvenience caused by the extra cars parked on
Thude Drive. We understand that this is a narrow, residential
street and it is very difficult to navigate when cars are parked on
both sides. Please forgive us and know that we are taking
precautions so that it will not happen again.
We are in the
process of requesting alternate parking at the San Tan Corporation
lot on Park Street. In the meantime, we have asked our guests to
immediately avoid parking on Thude.
We would also like
to take this opportunity to explain to you the reason for the extra
traffic. The month of Ramadan is a blessed month in the Islamic
Calendar. This year it runs from October 3rd to November
3rd. Muslims fast during this month each day from dawn
until dusk. Besides abstaining from food and drink, the fast is
supposed to remind Muslims to be extra sensitive, kind and
compassionate toward others in their community. That’s why it is
especially troubling if our actions have caused any inconvenience or
annoyance.
It is also a custom
to read passages from our Holy Book (called the Quran) daily during
Ramadan. Many lessons in the Quran focus upon the virtues of
exercising patience, caring for elderly parents, exhibiting charity
towards orphans and the needy, etc. The Quran also contains stories
related to those found in the Old and New Testaments (i.e. stories
of Adam, Noah, Abraham, Moses, Mary and Jesus – peace and blessings
be upon all of them – to name a few). This daily book study will
end on October 30th this year. Guests have been
gathering at our place for this reason.
Please accept this
gift basket as a small token of our immense appreciation for your
patience and understanding!

Alhumdulillah the
response was marvelous most of our neighbors are non Muslims so
Allah gave me a chance to convey His message. Also by the grace of
Allah we have a large Parking lot behind my home. So we also went to
them and gave them a basket plus the letter below.
October 16th, 2005
Dear San Tan
Corporation,
We are kindly
requesting permission for about 10 – 12 cars to park in your lot.
This would only be on a temporary basis until October 30th,
2005. They would park at the north end of your lot along Park
Street (farthest away from the office building) from approximately
10 a.m. to 2 p.m. daily.
We are making this
short-term request during the holy month of Ramadan when Muslims
observe a fast and families gather daily to read passages from
sacred scripture, similar to the Bible, called the Quran. Our street
is very small and narrow and the few extra cars are making it
congested.
Please accept this
gift basket as a small token of our appreciation.
Sincerely,
Your Neighbors at:
